NordicTrack Ultra 3 Review: Luxury Home Gym Territory
The Ultra 3 exists in a different class to everything else on this site. At £7,000, it costs more than three Commercial 1750s and offers specs that no standard home treadmill can match: a 5.0 CHP motor, a 60 × 157 cm deck (5 cm wider and 5 cm longer than any Commercial model), and a 32-inch HD touchscreen.
This is a treadmill for homes with dedicated gym rooms. It does not fold. It’s heavy. It’s permanent. But if you have the space and the budget, the running experience is as close to a commercial gym as you can get without installing industrial equipment.
What £7,000 gets you
The 5.0 CHP motor is the most powerful in NordicTrack’s range. At normal running speeds it’s almost silent. The 13.7 mph top speed matches the Commercial 2450 and accommodates even fast runners. The -3% to 15% incline range gives you the steepest gradient in the standard treadmill lineup (only the X Series goes higher with its 40% incline trainer design).
The 60 × 157 cm deck is the real luxury. Five extra centimetres of width over the Commercial range and five extra centimetres of length means taller runners can stride fully without feeling constrained. The 182 kg max user weight handles virtually anyone.
The 32″ HD screen dominates the console. iFIT workouts and virtual routes look spectacular at this size, and the screen doubles as a streaming display for Netflix, Spotify, and Amazon Prime. It’s the kind of setup that makes a home gym feel like a private health club.
Running experience
The 5.0 CHP motor delivers power that you simply cannot exhaust during home training. At normal running speeds (6-9 mph), the motor is virtually silent. Even at the 13.7 mph maximum, it operates with headroom to spare. Speed transitions during interval training are instantaneous, with no lag or hesitation.
The 60 × 157 cm deck is the key luxury feature. At 60 cm wide, you never feel constrained, even at pace with tired legs drifting sideways. The extra 5 cm of length over the Commercial range gives taller runners (6 ft 2+) room for a full natural stride without hitting the front console. This is the deck size where a home treadmill genuinely stops feeling like a compromise versus a commercial gym machine.
The 32″ screen experience
At 32 inches, the touchscreen is more television than treadmill display. iFIT’s filmed outdoor routes feel genuinely cinematic, and the trainer-led workouts display with enough clarity to follow form cues from any position on the deck. Netflix and Spotify streaming on a screen this size makes the treadmill an entertainment centre for your gym room.
The screen pivots for off-treadmill use, which at 32 inches makes it a legitimate screen for iFIT yoga, Pilates, and strength classes. Many Ultra 3 owners report using the screen for off-treadmill workouts as much as running.
Build quality and installation
The Ultra 3 does not fold. It requires a dedicated gym space with a permanent footprint of approximately 210 × 110 cm plus clearance behind for the incline mechanism. The machine weighs over 200 kg assembled. Professional delivery and installation is essential.
Build quality is commercial-grade. The frame is overbuilt, the deck is thick and rigid, and every component feels engineered for daily use over many years. The lifetime frame warranty reflects NordicTrack’s confidence in the construction.
Noise levels
Near-silent at walking and jogging speeds. The 5.0 CHP motor barely registers acoustically during normal use. Even at higher speeds, motor noise remains minimal, with foot strikes and belt noise being the primary sound sources. For a dedicated gym room in a house, noise is not a concern at any speed or time of day.
Ultra 3 vs Commercial 2450
The Commercial 2450 at £2,499 offers 90% of the running experience at a third of the price. Same max speed (13.7 mph), same incline range (-3% to 15%), the same motor family (4.25 CHP vs 5.0 CHP). The Ultra 3 adds a bigger deck, bigger screen, higher weight capacity, and a 0.75 CHP motor bump. Whether that’s worth £4,500 more is a personal decision about budget and how much you value the premium experience.
What we like
- 5.0 CHP motor is the most powerful in the range
- 60 × 157 cm deck is the largest NordicTrack makes
- 32″ HD screen makes iFIT genuinely cinematic
- 182 kg max user weight
- 15% incline with -3% decline
- Near-silent operation at normal speeds
- 0% finance via Klarna
What could be better
- £7,000 is nearly 3x the Commercial 2450 price
- Does not fold (permanent installation)
- Requires a dedicated gym room
- Marginal performance gains over the 2450 for most runners
- iFIT subscription still required for full functionality
Our verdict
The Ultra 3 is objectively excellent but hard to justify over the Commercial 2450 on pure value. Buy it if you have a dedicated gym room, want the absolute best running surface NordicTrack offers, and the budget isn’t a constraint. For everyone else, the Commercial 2450 delivers 90% of the experience at £2,499.
