RunRank: How do We Review Treadmills?

RunRank is our proprietary rating system for treadmills that we review

What Is RunRank?

RunRank is our in-house rating system for comparing treadmills and walking pads in a way that reflects what UK buyers actually care about: real-world reliability, value for money, and whether a machine is likely to be a good purchase.

It is not a pure “performance” score. A walking pad can score very highly even if it is designed for walking only, as long as it delivers excellent quality and value in its category.

What RunRank Measures

RunRank is designed to answer one question:

Is this treadmill or walking pad a good buy, based on evidence, quality and value?

We assess products across the areas below, then assign an overall RunRank rating so you can compare options quickly.

1. Real User Reviews and Ratings

We look at:

  • Average star rating across major retailers (where available)
  • Number of reviews, to separate proven products from new listings
  • Recurring themes in reviews, including reliability issues and standout positives

A higher RunRank generally requires both a strong rating and meaningful review volume.

2. Build Quality and Long-Term Reliability Signals

We assess:

  • Frame stability and overall construction quality
  • Motor and belt design suitability for the intended use
  • Common failure points mentioned in user feedback

Our focus is on how well a product holds up in everyday use, not just how it looks on a spec sheet.

3. Brand Track Record

We consider:

  • Whether the brand has an established history in fitness equipment
  • Consistency of user feedback across multiple products
  • Clear product identity versus generic “white label” listings

In fast-moving categories like walking pads, brand track record can be a meaningful reliability indicator.

4. Value for Money

We assess:

  • Whether the price point matches the quality and features offered
  • How it compares with close alternatives in the UK market
  • Whether there are clear compromises at lower prices

RunRank includes value. A product that is excellent for its price can outrank a more expensive option that does not justify the extra cost. A lot of review sites will tell you the most expensive treadmill is implicitly the best. We don’t believe that.

5. Suitability for the Intended Use

We consider:

  • How well the treadmill or walking pad fits its purpose
  • Desk walking practicality for walking pads (height, stability, controls)
  • Comfort and stability for treadmills at the speeds they are designed for

A walking pad is not marked down for not being a running treadmill. It is judged on whether it is a good walking pad.

6. Practical Ownership Factors

Where information is available, we also consider:

  • Warranty clarity and manufacturer support
  • Returns, parts availability, and customer support signals
  • Ease of setup, storage, and everyday use

Treadmills and walking pads are pretty large bits of kit that will live in your house and see daily use. You have to be furnished with all the facts before you buy!

What RunRank Does Not Do

  • It does not rank products purely by top speed, motor size, or headline specifications
  • It does not assume higher price automatically means higher quality
  • It does not replace reading the full review and checking dimensions for your space
  • It does not automatically rate expensive treadmills as being the best!

How to Use RunRank

Use RunRank as a shortcut for comparing options, then read the full review for context.

As a general guide:

  • Higher RunRank: strong user feedback, good quality signals, and solid value for money
  • Mid RunRank: good option with a few trade-offs or less review history
  • Lower RunRank: limited track record, weaker feedback, or value concerns

Why We Use RunRank

In categories like treadmills and walking pads, product listings can be inconsistent and specs alone do not tell the full story. RunRank exists to bring together the information that matters most to buyers: proven satisfaction, quality signals, and value for money.

Our aim is to make it easier to choose a treadmill or walking pad with confidence, especially in the UK market where availability, support and pricing can differ from US-focused review sites.
